Risnjak National Park was established in 1953 covering the area of Risnjak mountain, but in 1997 it was expanded to the beautiful source and headwaters of river Kupa. True phenomenon of the Park are its forests and mountains.

Highest peak Risnjak is 1528 m high and located only 15 km away from the sea in the area where the Dinaric and Alps regions meet. Amazing combination of climatic differences and karst geology has created an area where 1148 plant species and subspecies found their home.

The park is home to mammals such as wolves, bears and lynx and numerous endemic species and particularly in the caves.
